Reading time: two minutes.
As the year comes to a close I think I can safely assume it’s one we’re all very keen to see the back of!
We’re always so charged around this time of year to jump straight into the next one, especially 2021, with our minds bursting full of ideas, plans and goals, the thought of a new year with a fresh start is so appealing, right?
This year will be no different in that respect, and to enhance your experience I thought I’d share something about a habit of mine that you may also find useful.
I like to have a closing and releasing ritual
for the year ending, before moving on to setting my goals for the year ahead. I see it as a transition period, a way of closing a chapter, before starting the next.
For me, it’s not only about the coming year’s goals, it begins with saying goodbye to the current year first, letting go. It’s about finding peace, and acceptance, and then releasing it. Before I started doing this, it felt like I meandered from one year to the next. I’d throw some goals together and hope for the best. I’d still have thoughts reverberating about things from the previous year, I also found that self-doubt would creep in quicker, and it just gave me a lot of uneasy feelings, when I look back.
Starting the year with cords cut and a clean slate gives me a fresher energy for the year ahead, it also sets me up with the right mindset.
So I’m going to break it down for you now, remember if you want to use this you can tailor it to your own needs, just find something that works for you!
I aim for the last few days of December, it doesn’t matter the exact date that you choose to do it.
A couple of days before I get started, I’ll have usually written down some prompts to journal about and I’ll have made a Tarot spread to accompany it.
I’ll get quiet, and create some sacred space (how you do that is your choice of course). I like to set the mood with incense, candles, crystals, and connecting with Spirit at the beginning of the ritual.
Our home will have already been cleansed with Sage before I start. Remember, what’s important is to just make it your own, with your intentions, I can’t stress that enough.
What’s also important is that you don’t get disturbed or distracted, the rest are just nice bonuses.
I’ll meditate whilst connected with Spirit, and continue in this state whilst I carry out my journaling and the Tarot reading.
I’ll journal about the previous year, and look at any messages that were intended for me, any lessons learnt, and such. I find that my most effective work for cutting cords and releasing takes place through journaling, and using the Tarot.
I’ll also include some form of gratitude work, maybe in written form, or thought, and just sit with that energy. For as long as I feel needs be.
I’ve previously been on ‘connecting with nature’ walks, I’ve included reiki sessions, combined crystals and the main chakras to enhance realignment. I’ve made it unique each time.
It’s about tailoring it to your needs, with a focus on closing, releasing, and moving on!
I’ll follow the closing and releasing work with goal setting and looking towards the next year, I like the momentum that gets built up during the first half. I find it makes more impact that way than when I just schedule the coming year’s work for a later date.
I hope this post was useful to you, and that it provided you with some inspiration to apply to your practice. Thanks for your time, feel free to use the comments section below to share your thoughts, I’d love to hear about what works for you!
Wishing you a healthy, happy, and abundant 2021, stay safe!
Blessings,
